The sculptor Luigi Galligani

Luigi Galligani was born in Pistoia in 1957.

He attended the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence and Carrara where he graduated in 1980 by a thesis about Marino Marini.

In 1985 a work of his appeared in the Mondadori Catalogue of Italian Sculpture by the signalling of Renzo Biasion and Tommaso Paloscia.

In 1992,by the collaboration of Ken’s Art Gallery of Florence, that shows his works since 1985, he gave some lessons and a lecture in the Orange Coast College of Los Angeles.

In 1993, the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno of Florence, appointed him academician of the Sculpture Side.

In 1996, the Accademia dei Georgofili of Florence, heavily damaged by a bomb in 1993, chose a bas-relief of Galligani for one of its halls, in occasion of the end of restoration.

In 1997, Antonio Paolucci, ex-Minister of Culture in Italy, wrote the critic text about the Galligani’s works in his monographic catalogue.

In 1999, Tuscany Region ordered Luigi Galligani to realize the “PEGASO STRAORDINARIO 1999” for Eugenio Garin, historian of philosophy.

In the Summer 2001, the artist realized a personal exhibition of his recent scultptures in the park of La Versiliana, Marina di Pietrasanta, during the XXII Festival, with the critic texts of Romano Battaglia and Antonio Paolucci in his catalogue.
In the same year Galligani was present with a personal stand in the Art Fair “CLASSIC VIII” of Kortrijk, in Belgium.
In this last period he began a collaboration with the Galleria d’Arte “Enrico Paoli” of Pietrasanta, and with the Capricorno Art Gallery of Capri.
In the same year the Royal Caribbean International commissions to the artist a monumental work made of bronze and two busts made of terracotta for the cruise ship: "Mariner of the Seas".

In the year 2004 Galligani exhibits a range of monumental works in Orbetello, presented by Giovanni Faccenda and the Exhibition, based on the Tema del Mito Mediterraneo (Theme of the Mediterranean Myth) goes on until December 2006.

His sculptures have been exposed in 2005 in Capalbio with the presentation of Giuseppe Cordoni and at the Associazione Industriali di Firenze, with the collaboration of Prof. Mario Bigazzi, one of the main representatives in the field of intensive rehabilitation, who presents in this venue the group of bronze sculptures called "Tre Grazie" before their definitive placement at the Istituto Tiberino in Umbertide.

In 2006 the artist was invited to an important sculpture exhibition in Maastricht where he exhibits his three big bronze sculptures in the gardens of Chateau Neercanne.
In the same year the Associazione Industriali di Firenze commissions to him a bronze work that the Associazione hands over to Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, in occasion of the Meeting in June 22nd at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Florence.

Many of his works based on the theme of the Mediterranean Myth are exposed at Fattoria di Corsignano, in the area called Casentino, seat of an important collection of contemporary art of the collector and patron Lorenzo Lori, with whom Galligani intensely cooperates, as regards his exhibition activity, since the year 2000.

The artist makes his works at the Ditta Cotto Chiti, in Località IL FERRONE, IMPRUNETA (FI), where is situated his own workshop.

He lives and works in Castellina in Chianti, in Tuscany.
